What are podcasts?
Podcasts are typically mp3 files available via a “feed” that when subscribed to will be delivered directly to your desktop or mp3 player. They are like an audio blog or radio show and can be listened to through a website or downloaded to your hard drive or portable mp3 player. iPod® not required!
RSS Feed
Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds are what transform ordinary mp3 files into podcasts. RSS feeds check for and detect updated podcasts that you have subscribed to. When your RSS feed detects a new file, the podcast is downloaded and placed into the play list of your podcast client (i.e. software). Podcast clients include iPodder, podfeeder, nimiq, Doppler, PodAmigo, etc. Subscribing to podcasts is easy and free. Once you subscribe, you'll never have to remember to continually check websites to get the information and entertainment you want.
How do I subscribe to a podcasts?
First off, you'll need to download podcast software. No worries, it's free and easy. There are many options available. To find one, search for "podcast client" or "podcast software" and download one that suits you. Some examples include iPodder, podfeeder, nimiq, Doppler, PodAmigo, etc.
After you have downloaded and installed your podcast client you can start subscribing to podcasts. To subscribe simply copy the provided URL (http:// address) of the podcast from its website into your podcast client under "add feed" or "subscribe to a podcast". If you have questions, refer to the help section of your podcast software.
