Leadership Announced for Economic Alliance

May 03, 2017

The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance announces the appointment of Doug Neumann to lead the organization. Neumann has served as interim leader of the Economic Alliance for the past year and prior to that as executive vice president since the organization began in 2012.

As Executive Director, Neumann will be responsible for driving the organization’s mission through initiatives in business support and expansion, community development, member engagement and public policy. He will continue to serve as the face of the organization to key stakeholders, community and government leaders, and provide leadership to the Economic Alliance’s 25-person team.

“We are proud of the leadership Doug has provided the staff, the organization and the business community, and we are pleased to make this a permanent position for him and the organization,” said Ted Townsend, President/CEO of UnityPoint Cedar Rapids and the 2017 Chair of the Economic Alliance Board.

The announcement is made simultaneously with a joint announcement from the Economic Alliance and the Iowa City Area Development Group that Jennifer Daly will lead a joint venture between the two groups to drive regional economic and workforce development.

“I’m honored by this opportunity, and especially pleased that it’s coming at the same time we have an opportunity to relaunch and re-energize our regional work,” Neumann said. “I can’t say enough about the extraordinary efforts of the Economic Alliance staff through this past year of transition and uncertainty. They have been outstanding.”

Neumann brings experience in leadership, downtown development, public policy and communications through his previous positions with the Cedar Rapids Downtown District, the former Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of Cedar Rapids and The Gazette.

He was asked to serve as interim leader at the Economic Alliance in April 2016 after serving more than four years as the organization’s executive vice president. Prior to the development of the Economic Alliance in 2012, Neumann held the position of President & CEO of the Cedar Rapids Downtown District.

Neumann has lived in Cedar Rapids for 25 years, and is a native of Random Lake, Wisconsin and a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
