Lil' Drug Store Products, Inc. Announces $13M Business Expansion in Cedar Rapids
May 19, 2017
Lil’ Drug Store Products, Inc. officially announced today their intention to move forward with plans for a $13M business expansion development in Cedar Rapids. The current agriculture site, located at Earhart Lane SW, will be completely developed for a new 100,000 square foot distribution center and office. The project will create 11 new jobs. Lil’ Drug Store Products received regulatory and governmental approval and financial assistance.
Lil’ Drug Store Products was founded in 1974 with the simple idea of providing convenient relief to travelers by delivering single doses of common over-the-counter medicines to convenience stores. Today, the company’s products are sold in more than 100,000 retail locations and its product portfolio has expanded into the health and beauty care, automotive, general merchandise and healthy snack categories.
“We are proud of our track record of growth over the past forty years, and look forward to the exciting new chapter of innovation that this state of the art facility will afford,” says Chris DeWolf, CEO, Lil' Drug Store Products. “Since our company’s founding, we have been headquartered in Iowa. We are delighted to continue this Iowa tradition and invest in our home town of Cedar Rapids.”
The City of Cedar Rapids passed a resolution of support for the sponsorship of the state financial assistance application at its meeting on April 25, 2017. The Iowa Economic Development Authority approved the project’s application earlier today. State financial assistance will be primarily in the form of state tax credits. The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance assisted in preparation of the state application that was sent to the Iowa Economic Development Authority in earlier this month.
“Lil’ Drug Store is a Cedar Rapids based business that started with a local entrepreneur and became the leader of its industry and a true success story,” said Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett. “The company is a tremendous asset to the City of Cedar Rapids, and this expansion shows their confidence and long-term commitment to grow and invest in our community.”
“We are pleased to see the ongoing success of Lil’ Drug Store Products and look forward to watching them continue to thrive in Cedar Rapids for many years to come," said Cedar Rapids City Manager Jeff Pomeranz.
“It is a pleasure to facilitate expansion projects for our members,” said Brian Crowe, Economic Development Strategist, Economic Alliance. “We’re pleased to be a small part of Lil’ Drug Store Products impressive growth.”
Hunter Companies of Cedar Rapids, Iowa will serve as the general contractor for the project. Construction plans will begin July 2017 with anticipated completion in late Summer 2018.
