Economic Alliance and Hawkeye Area Labor Council Announce Mayoral Forum

Jun 29, 2017

The Hawkeye Area Labor Council AFL-CIO and Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance have teamed up to host a forum for all candidates running to succeed Ron Corbett as mayor of Cedar Rapids. The forum will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 12 at the Cedar Rapids Public Library’s Whipple Auditorium.

“The Hawkeye Area Labor Council seeks to promote legislation that will enable the government to be responsive to the needs of working people and their families,” said Rick Moyle, Executive Director of the Hawkeye Area Labor Council AFL-CIO. “Providing a direct opportunity to understand each of the candidates’ stances is vital to accomplishing this goal.”

All publicly announced Cedar Rapids mayoral candidates have confirmed their attendance, and invitations will be extended to any other candidates who join the race before the nomination deadline.

“Collaborating with Hawkeye Area Labor Council on this public policy advocacy opportunity provides a direct voice to both our memberships to advocate for issues key to our businesses and the region,” said Doug Neumann, Executive Director of the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance.

Moyle and Neumann both said the organizations share many of the same goals when it comes to local government.

“Regional economic growth is good for us all,” said Neumann.

Additional details, including information regarding attendee registration opportunities will be coming soon.
