Legacy Manufacturing to Move Forward with Expansion to Support Growth and Reshoring of Manufacturing Operations

Marion, IA – Legacy® Manufacturing Company will move forward on an expansion to its recently completed facility as a result of continued growth and success in reshoring U.S. manufacturing processes. In 2016, Legacy completed its 133,000 square foot facility located at 6509 Partners Avenue in Marion. The new warehouse expansion will add 200,000 square feet to Legacy’s existing location with capital investment estimated at $12 million. The company is located in the Marion Enterprise Center.
Legacy, an international company headquartered at 6509 Partners Avenue in Marion, is a division of Weems Industries. Legacy has been serving various markets since 1986, offering a wide-range of professional grade service and maintenance equipment for automotive, industrial, contractor, agricultural and marine markets throughout North America.
The expansion supports Legacy’s plans to re-shore many of its proprietary products including the Flexzilla® brand of air hose. Legacy’s Flexzilla® branded hose products have also opened up vast the lawn and garden and outdoor power categories, leading to robust growth for the company. Customers in America include: Farm stores TSC to Theisen’s; auto part stores including NAPA to O’Reilly; industrial distributors Grainger to McMaster-Carr; tool and equipment distributors Snap-On to MAC Tools; hardware chains True Value to Do-It-Best; Menards and Sears.

The Marion City Council passed a resolution of support for the sponsorship of the state financial assistance application at an August meeting. The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board approved the project application on Friday, August 18. State financial assistance will be in the form of tax credits created as a result of their own capital investments. Marion Economic Development Corporation led the project development process. The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance assisted in the preparation of the state application.
The expansion will create 13 new jobs over the next three years. Legacy currently has 58 employees in Marion.
The Marion Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO) partnered with the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance in preparing an application to the State of Iowa’s High Quality Jobs Program.
