Economic Alliance and Downtown SSMID Announce Executive Director

Jesse Thoeming has been hired as the new Cedar Rapids Downtown Executive Director. The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance and the Downtown Self-Supporting Municipal Improvement District (Downtown SSMID) Commission cooperatively made the announcement today.
Thoeming will be employed by the Economic Alliance to execute on the priorities, goals and strategies of the Downtown SSMID, which represents commercial property owners in a 55-block area on the east and west sides of the Cedar River.
“Our updated downtown plan has several bold development ideas in it, and we’re confident Jesse’s skills and experience can lead success of the plan,” said Fred Timko, chairman of the Downtown SSMID Commission.
Thoeming will assume the duties formerly handled by Casey Prince and will focus on downtown initiatives such as downtown housing, parking system management, business retention and growth, communications and advocacy.
“Jesse’s work ethic and commitment to downtown really stood out,” said Doug Neumann, Executive Director, Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance. “I’m confident he’ll be a tremendous addition to our Economic Alliance team, and a strong leader for the downtown commercial property owners.”
“With more than 13 years of experience in project management, customer relations, program management and client satisfaction and retention in several roles at area businesses, Thoeming was a good fit for the highly varied job of downtown executive,” said Timko.
Thoeming will begin his new role immediately.
