Future Ready Iowa Act Becomes Law
Apr 03, 2018
Governor Reynolds signed her signature workforce legislation on Tuesday, April 3. The Future Ready Iowa Act, also one of the Economic Alliance’s top priorities, sets in motion a better alignment between student curriculum and the workforce needs of businesses. We are especially pleased it also seeks to enhance our local efforts to build Iowa’s talent pipeline and close the skills gap.
The Act also seeks to establish a Registered Apprenticeship Development program, a volunteer mentoring program, a summer youth intern program, summer post-secondary courses for high school students that are aligned with high-demand career pathways, an employer innovation fund, Future Ready Iowa skilled workforce scholarship and grant programs and funds.
The Economic Alliance hosted Governor Reynolds last year during her Future Ready Iowa Tour where our members had the opportunity to provide feedback and recommendations to the governor to address our region’s workforce shortages and strategies to fill the skills gap.
The legislation was sent to the governor after unanimously passing the legislature. The Economic Alliance commends the governor and all legislators for listening to our businesses about our workforce challenges and working together to create solutions.
