Advocacy Efforts: Skilled Workers
Jun 28, 2018
Economic Alliance members consistently tell us growing our skilled workforce is their number one concern. This week nearly 500 business and education organizations from across the country, including the Economic Alliance, urged the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pension (HELP) Committee to act to reauthorize the Perkins Career and Technical Education (CTE) Act.
On Tuesday the committee agreed unanimously to send the bill to the full Senate for consideration. The bill revamps the existing Perkins laws to allow states to establish certain goals for CTE programs without getting them cleared by the secretary of education first, encourages training that will equip students for the most needed jobs and promotes the work-based acquisition of skills.
