Unified Regional Legislative Agenda Showcased at ICR Day at the Capitol

Feb 27, 2019

Each year, the Economic Alliance joins forces with the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce for ICR Day at the Capitol. On Tuesday, March 26, a contingent will head to the Iowa State Capitol to connect directly with state legislators. We invite our members to join us for an opportunity to advocate for our regional public policy priorities. In addition to delivering kolaches (a much anticipated tradition), members will have the opportunity to attend and observe meetings with legislators. Register here.

This year is especially noteworthy, as we’ve created an identical, unified regional state and federal legislative agenda with the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce to advocate as one to our regional policy makers. And it’s not just for Iowa City and Cedar Rapids – we sought input from economic development and business groups across ICR, including those in Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Jones and Washington counties.

We all face many of the same challenges, and more importantly, often have the same goals. We all want to see our communities thrive, our businesses grow, and our workers and future workers succeed. Our region is made up of seven counties and approximately 450,000 residents. Together we are represented by a total of 28 state legislators and four federally elected officials. This collaboration enhances our advocacy efforts because after all, there is power in more people echoing the same message.
