New, Interactive Experiences at 5th Annual Market After Dark

Jul 11, 2019

Nearly 100 Iowa vendors, entertainment, prepared food, dancing, local wine, beer and cider, a balloon garden and an illuminated mural are all things you’ll find at Market After Dark on Saturday, August 24 from 6:30 – 11 p.m. in Downtown Cedar Rapids!

Join 40,000 of your closest friends for one of the biggest events in Downtown Cedar Rapids. This year’s market venue will encompass Second, Third and Fourth Avenues between First Street and Sixth Street SE.

Look forward to what you’ve come to expect with Market After Dark, like open container for wine, beer and cider within the venue, vendors lining the streets offering market-staples like produce paired with vendors and market items you won’t find at the morning Downtown Farmers’ Market.

Prepare for some incredible, new Instagramable sights at this year’s event. First, wander through a not-so-secret garden in Greene Square. This is a garden like you’ve never seen before, because it will be made entirely from balloons! We’re talking lighted balloons, balloons hanging from trees, balloons shaped like flowers, and more. Then, hit up the illuminated mural (exact location being determined now) and tell the world you’re wild at heart. When the clock strikes 11:00 p.m. the mural will be gone forever, so don’t miss out!

This event packs a positive economic punch. Many bars and restaurants that participate in the event say it’s their second highest sales night, second only to St. Patrick’s Day. Cities with free, community events like these are attractive for both current and prospective residents and help create a vibrant environment in the heart of Cedar Rapids.

Market After Dark 2019 is made possible with support from Alliant Energy, as well as the event’s Supporting Sponsors, Nordstrom and Wickwire Chiropractic & Wellness Center and Media Sponsor The Gazette.
