Eight Storm Drains Transformed into Colorful Murals With an Important Message
Aug 28, 2019
If you’ve walked through Downtown Cedar Rapids lately, you may have noticed eight storm drains have been transformed into educational, colorful pieces of public art!
Many people assume that pollutants flowing down storm drains will be treated at the water pollution control facility. This assumption is not true. Dumping grease, cigarettes and trash into storm drains is forbidden. To educate the public and for added vibrancy to Downtown Cedar Rapids, the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance and City of Cedar Rapids teamed up to coordinate the creation of eight storm murals in the Downtown core and Kingston Village.
Storm drain murals are completed now! Click here to see a map of all mural locations.
Walk around the district and see all the murals on Friday, August 30! A walking tour will start at the Economic Alliance at noon and end on 3rd Ave SW by Groundswell and Dash Coffee.
