How Can Technology Lead to Creative Workforce Solutions?
Aug 14, 2019
Today’s businesses are asking: How can technology help ease workforce woes? Throughout our region, our state and across the Midwest, shortages of skilled, available workforce is a critical challenge. The Economic Alliance is hosting an educational panel discussion called Technology for Creative Workforce Solutions on Tuesday, October 15 from 8 - 9:15 a.m. to provide real-world, current examples of how some Iowa organizations are making the most of existing workforce with the help of technology.
The Economic Alliance hears from our business community that this need is especially prevalent in manufacturing and service-based businesses. Panel attendees will hear examples from businesses within these industries that recently, or will soon use, technology to creatively address workforce shortages, the investment it took to implement them and what impact it’s had on their business. The panel will include information about:
First Federal Credit Union’s Express Teller Machines that allow their members to conduct transactions and use the credit union’s services through a real time video interaction.
Raining Rose is a manufacturer of personal care products that is using automation in their manufacturing process.
Also look forward to hearing about the Digital Manufacturing Lab at Iowa State University’s Center for Industrial Research and Services (CIRAS), to open late September 2019. When plans for the lab were announced this February, CIRAS Manufacturing Extension Partnership Director Mike O’Donnell stated that the lab will serve a valuable need by creating a flexible space where Iowa manufacturers will be able to experience, test, and deploy emerging manufacturing technologies in ways that could help solve their workforce difficulties
