For the First Time, Majority of U.S. New Hires are People of Color - Diversity Resource Guides Available Now
Oct 21, 2019
For the first time in the U.S., most new hires of prime working age – 25 to 54 years old – are people of color, according to a Washington Post analysis of data the Labor Department began collecting in the 1970s. The Post reports that minority hires overtook white hires last year.
As workforce trends continue to change, Inclusive ICR’s Diversity Resource Guides can be helpful to ICR employers. The first two electronic Diversity Resource Guides, the African America/Black Resource Guide and the Asian/Pacific American Resource Guide, were launched this summer. Look for the next two Resource Guides by the end of the year: Latinx and LGBTQ.
The Inclusive ICR Coalition developed the Resource Guides to enhance newcomer experiences in the region. In particular, coalition members want to showcase opportunities for newcomers to network, meet new friends, and grow roots within their new hometown. While the Resource Guides in current form are ready to share, they are designed to expand and evolve as more individuals and communities share additional resources and experiences. The coalition plans to hold a focus group with newcomers later this year to gather more feedback.
