Home Base Iowa Community Designation for Linn County and Cedar Rapids
Oct 30, 2019
Linn County and Cedar Rapids were recently announced as the newest communities in our state to receive the Home Base Iowa community designation. The Home Base Iowa initiative helps connect employers with qualified veterans looking for career opportunities in Iowa. Home Base Iowa is an initiative created by former Governor Terry Branstad, Iowa Workforce Development, the Iowa Economic Development Authority, and Iowa's veteran community to help veterans across the country find private sector jobs, explore career paths and make a smooth transition to civilian life here in Iowa.
Iowa is experiencing record low-unemployment and a population that has seen little growth over the past 100 years. Economic Alliance members expect workforce challenges to be addressed, and we have continued to explore solutions to grow our population and attract new employees. Solving Iowa’s workforce challenge will take a multifaceted approach, and now Cedar Rapids and Linn County can help our businesses and communities welcome these skilled workers and transition to high demand positions in our community.
In existing business surveys, in-person interviews with interstate commerce companies conducted by our Economic Development & Workforce team, we continue to hear from members like you that availability of workforce is one of your biggest concerns. We are excited to work with Home Base Iowa to help them achieve their vision of making Iowa the “State of Choice” for veterans and transitioning service members for employment, education and/or continued service; and so that service members are valued in communities which are welcoming, affordable, safe and family-friendly.
