Market Season Wraps Up with Strong Partnerships & Community Impact + Save the Date for 2020 Markets
Oct 16, 2019
The final Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmers’ Market presented by Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust of the year took place on September 21, and capped another impactful season for local Iowa vendors and for area nonprofits.
Vendors Sales Soar
The Downtown Farmers’ Market provides a space for locally owned businesses, farmers and entrepreneurs to bring their products to thousands of patrons. In total, 267 vendors were featured this year. Sales and marketing information was gathered throughout the season thanks to students involved in Mount Mercy’s Enactus program. Many vendors shared that this season brought in their highest sales numbers to date!
Nonprofit Partners Benefit from Market Appearances
The Downtown Farmers’ Market is thrilled to partner with organizations in the community. Homerun for Hunger donated more than 1,991 pounds of food this year for 1,659 meals for those in need. The Great Eastern Iowa Duck Race, hosted by Daybreak Rotary, raised $45,000 for area nonprofits, with nearly a quarter of ducks sold just at morning markets alone. The Big Drop, hosted by Cedar Rapids West Rotary, raised $15,000 for local education initiatives. The Crunch Berry Run, hosted by Murals and More, raised $6,000 for public art initiatives.
Market After Dark Shines in Fifth Year
Market After Dark returned for another season and drew nearly 50,000 attendees on Saturday, August 24 with most vendors selling out of product well before the closing bell. About 100 vendors, 20 participating establishments and 150 volunteers participated in the evening, creating substantial impact.
Thank you to all who make the Downtown Farmers’ Markets happen every season, including enthusiastic community members, vendors and entertainers who make shopping delightful, fun and engaging, volunteers who take care of every question and detail to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, and sponsors and partners for supporting these events and promoting healthy, dynamic and memorable community experiences. Strengthening core districts and promoting their growth and success, one of the Economic Alliance’s strategic goals, would not be possible without your support.
