Nov 26, 2019

The Economic Alliance is proud to announce David MacLennan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cargill, as the keynote speaker for the Economic Alliance Annual Meeting taking place on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Cedar Rapids Convention Complex in downtown Cedar Rapids.

“Cedar Rapids is a national leader in food and food ingredient production, in large part thanks to Cargill’s presence,” said Doug Neumann, Executive Director, Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance. “As one of Cedar Rapids’ largest employers, Cargill’s success here is closely tied to the region’s access to raw materials, infrastructure, and research.”

Over 1,000 Economic Alliance members are expected to attend the event to hear from MacLennan as he sits down with Economic Alliance Board Vice Chair and Vice President of Finance Shared Services at Collins Aerospace, Tatum Buse, and Economic Alliance Executive Director, Doug Neumann. They’ll discuss the role agriculture and farmers play in solving some of world’s most critical challenges, how technology and innovation are disrupting the food and ag industries, and the importance of Cedar Rapids to Cargill’s business.

“Cargill brings an agricultural connection to Cedar Rapids’ urban setting, growth to our Cedar Rapids based companies, like Diamond V, and the opportunity of bringing additional quality jobs to our community,” said Chris Skogman, Economic Alliance Board Chair and President of Skogman Companies. “We’re proud to welcome Dave to our signature annual event.”

Dave MacLennan has been chief executive officer of Cargill since 2013 and was first elected to the Cargill Board of Directors in 2008. He is the 9th CEO since Cargill was founded in Iowa in 1865.

MacLennan began his Cargill career in 1991 in the Financial Markets Division, helping establish Cargill’s proprietary financial business in distressed asset investing and trading, serving in that capacity in the Minneapolis and London offices. After serving as Chief Financial Officer of the Financial Markets Division, he moved to Geneva to head Cargill Energy, which engaged in the trading, hedging, and merchandising of energy products for Cargill and its customers. He also supervised several businesses in Cargill Protein and later, Food Ingredients, before becoming Chief Financial Officer in 2008, and Chief Operating Officer in 2011.

Cargill’s 160,000 employees across 70 countries work to nourish the world in a safe, responsible and sustainable way connecting farmers with markets, customers with ingredients, and people and animals with the food needed to thrive. Cargill combines 154 years of experience with new technologies and insights to serve as a trusted partner for food, agriculture, financial and industrial customers in more than 125 countries.
