The City of Cedar Rapids, in partnership with the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, invites the public to an event focused on the impact of immigration in our community on Wednesday, December 4 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance (501 First St. SE). Attendees will learn about a recent study conducted by New American Economy (NAE) focusing on the impacts immigrants have on the community and our economy; and the City will unveil a Strategic Plan to help welcome and engage our immigrant population.
Eric Christianson, from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, will provide information and insight about the strategic plan. Molly Hilligoss from Welcoming America will discuss the research and details about the work of Welcoming America and NAE.
Cedar Rapids was one of 14 communities selected nationally for the 2019 Gateways for Growth award to receive research and technical assistance from New American Economy (NAE) and Welcoming America. The final report highlights the impact that immigrants in Cedar Rapids have on their community.
