Lets Champion and Protect Local Businesses and Arts & Cultural Amenities!
Jul 30, 2020
A new initiative to champion a local-first mindset - Rally C.A.P. (Champion and Protect) launched last month encouraging the community to support local businesses and arts & cultural amenities impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, while following safety and health guidelines. The initiative calls for the community to join the team and to support local businesses, restaurants, arts & cultural attractions and everything that makes our area a great place to live so our local economy can make a comeback.
A recent poll from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and MetLife shows that 82% of small businesses are concerned about the impact of the pandemic. In recent months, local businesses had to close their doors temporarily, limit interaction with customers and/or transition to a completely or partial online model. Rally C.A.P. urges the public to actively get involved with shaping what our local economic recovery looks like by purchasing locally whenever possible.
“This community has been thrown a curveball or two,” said Doug Neumann, Executive Director of the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance. “After the 2008 flooding, experts predicted mass closures of affected businesses. We beat the odds then and we intend to beat the odds again with pandemic economic recovery.”
Everyone can get involved by buying locally with the Rally C.A.P. Challenge. Rally cards are being distributed at participating establishments as consumers make local purchases. After collecting five Rally cards, participants can redeem their cards for an official Rally baseball cap to become part of the Rally C.A.P. team. Information on the Rally C.A.P. Challenge, participating establishments and where to turn in Rally cards can be found at RallyCAPChallenge.com.
Increased business to business interactions are essential in economic recovery, and many businesses are offering products and services other businesses need as they reopen and keep their customers and employees safe. A list of these businesses can also be found at RallyCAPChallenge.com.
