MedQuarter's Faith & Medicine Task Force Joines Local Forces Around Mental Illness Awareness for Virtual Education Series
Aug 25, 2020
The MedQuarter Regional Medical District’s Faith and Medicine Task Force is teaming up on a community initiative around mental health to produce a series of educational sessions later this year. The series will bring together community health care providers, faith leaders and the community at large.
The Faith & Medicine Task Force is a group that brings together the faith community and health care. In November 2019, the Task Force set out to engage in efforts around mental health. Over the next several months the Task Force met and additional task force members who were passionate about the topic joined the team.
Several members of the Task Force are also involved with the local efforts around ‘Make It OK’, a community campaign to reduce stigma by starting conversations and increasing understanding about mental illness. ‘Make It Ok’ is part of Iowa’s Healthiest State Initiative. Rather than potentially duplicating efforts, both groups decided it would be best to join forces and networks, to aid the success of both. To that end, five members of the Faith & Medicine Task Force joined the ‘Make It OK’ Planning Committee and developed a series of virtual sessions to be held August through November titled Make It OK Mid-Week.
Each session aims to raise awareness about an aspect of mental illness and define resources available for our community members, workplaces, and places of worship. Each session will feature a panel of experts and everyday individuals who will share strategies and lived experiences to broaden the community’s awareness.
