New App Will Give Incentives For CHampioning and Protecting Downtown Businesses
Aug 25, 2020
As the coronavirus pandemic threat continues to impact local businesses, the Downtown Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District (SSMID) identified a high-tech project to help rally around those businesses feeling the effects. An app will be available for iPhone and Android soon and intends to provide incentives to shoppers for making local purchases.
The app will partner with restaurants, shops, and amenities in the area to make it simple to scan a receipt and get money back in the form of credits on the app that can be used at other Downtown businesses. This gives businesses a boost who might otherwise be hurting due to the effects of the pandemic, and gives consumers a feel-good opportunity to help out their favorites, all while contributing positive economic impact. A partnership between the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance and the Downtown SSMID, the app can be downloaded for free and will work by allowing customers to scan in their receipts to show a purchase, and after hitting a specific cash value, they’ll automatically receive dollars that can be used by displaying the QR code for scanning by participating shop owners.
Once launched, more information about the app and participating establishments will be available for download by visiting www.cedarrapids.org/downtown.
