ICR Future Hosts Generational Expert for Session on the Potential of Young People
Sep 18, 2020
ICR Future is a coalition of educators, employers, and organizations working together to develop the future workforce in Iowa City-Cedar Rapids (ICR). The coalition was launched in 2018 and includes more than 130 members, with goals to increase the number of students who select high demand career pathways, and increase the number of students who graduate with work-ready skills. ICR Future takes the form of four teams: Career Exploration, Work-Based Learning, Computer Science, and Problem-Based Learning & 21st Century Skills.
Along with it’s numerous partners including Regional Planning Partnership, Grant Wood AEA and Kirkwood Community College, ICR Future is excited to bring Generational Expert and national author, Mark Perna to the region to discuss groundbreaking innovations and strategies for working with today’s younger generations. Join ICR Future to discover why the synergy of robust academic knowledge, technical competency, and professional skills is the single most important competitive advantage a young person can possess. Perna’s book, Answering Why, shares an important conversation on relevancy and purpose in our education system and helping students understand the connection between the classroom and the careers they want to pursue. Perna also shares the importance of classroom learning in combination with the development of technical skills and work experience. Collectively, these three components are the secret to preparing a student for their future workplace.
Register for “Unleashing Power, Purpose, and Performance in Younger Generations” on October 19 from noon-1 p.m., or from 6-7 p.m. at ICRfuture.org/mark-perna.
