Stay Well in the MedQuarter
Sep 18, 2020
The MedQuarter Regional Medical District has launched multiple initiatives to encourage patients, visitors, employees and the community to stay well on many levels. Throughout the world, our nation, in the state, our county, and right here in Cedar Rapids, people are dealing with COVID-19 in nearly every aspect of their day to day lives. Everyone is seeking to get back to ‘normal’, but safety is paramount. As a medical district, the MedQuarter wants to be the harbinger of wellness by allowing people in our region to receive health care treatments, dine, shop and enjoy entertainment in a safe, ‘COVID-Conscious’ environment.
Mask of Wellness + MedQ
The benefits of masks in reducing the spread of infectious diseases are well substantiated. As a means to provide a methodology and awareness campaign, the MedQ has partnered with Mask of Wellness to encourage businesses in the District to follow specific guidelines. Mask of Wellness is a nationwide strategic approach to opening society in a manner promoting wellness – socially, physically, and economically. The MedQuarter aims to become the first-ever COVID-Conscious District by having 80% of businesses in the District pledge to follow Mask of Wellness guidelines:
1. Masks are worn in all areas of the work environment.
2. Hygiene is respected for hands and surfaces.
3. Health – signs of illness are recognized and screened for.

Summer in the Q
This summer the MedQuarter has launched two programs to help people get out, explore, learn something new, and have fun in the process -- safely.
Start your morning with a peaceful workout in the MedQuarter! We’re hosting FREE sunrise yoga sessions at 6 a.m. on the 3rd Thursday of each month, July through September in the MedQ Park on 3rd. Water will be available for attendees. Please bring your own yoga mat or towel. Attendees are asked to space out in the Park by 6 feet. If 6 feet of distance is not possible, attendees are encouraged to wear masks.
Each session will be led by a licensed yoga instructor and appropriate for all experience levels. The MedQ Park on 3rd (800 3rd Ave. SE) is a green space in the heart of the MedQuarter that provides a pedestrian and bike-friendly environment.
The hunt is on (again!) Each Monday, September 14 through 27, clues to three MedQuarter locations will be posted at
www.themedq.com/SummerintheQ. Walk through the district to decode the clues and submit your answers by 11:59 p.m. each Sunday to be eligible to be one of two weekly winners of $50 in gift cards to MedQuarter businesses! For more information, visit www.themedq.com/SummerintheQ.
Make It OK Mid-Week Series
Staying healthy requires both physical and mental health. With the ongoing effects of COVID-19, and the added stress brought on by the recent derecho storm that impacted our region, people are experiencing circumstances that they probably have never before. And we are experiencing it as an entire community since nearly everyone was impacted by the storm in some way. In response to these challenges, the MedQuarter’s Faith & Medicine Task Force has joined forces with Make It OK – Linn County to create a virtual series to raise awareness about mental illness. This collaboration between community health care providers, faith leaders and the community at large will delve into aspects of mental health that were assessed to be of key concern.
Each session is designed to raise awareness concerning an aspect of mental illness and resources that are available for our community members, workplaces, and places of worship. All will feature a panel of experts and everyday individuals who will share strategies and lived experiences to broaden the community’s awareness. Register for the following sessions:
Mental Health and the World We Live in Today - September 23
Stop the Silence; Stop the Stigma - October 28
Medical and Spiritual First Aid - November 18
Each virtual session will be from Noon – 1:00p.m. available as a Zoom webinar. Register online at www.themedq.com/events.
