Buy. Give. Grow. Sharing Stories and Creating Local Impact

Mar 12, 2021

Buy Give Grow - Let's Rally!

The Buy. Give. Grow. initiative presented by GreenState Credit Union was a shop local initiative encouraging support of our local community businesses and organizations through the holiday season and into the new year. By helping champion a local-first mindset and encouraging support for over 230 local businesses and nonprofits, Buy. Give. Grow. was just the rally the community needed headed into the new year.

From November 2020 through January 2021, many metro area businesses saw tremendous support from the local community in a variety of ways. From foot traffic in their brick and mortar stores, to online to-go orders, to volunteer hours and helping hands given. We reached out to some of the participating member businesses and nonprofits to gage the direct impact the program had on their business. Here is what they had to say:

“This community pulled together during the pandemic and the derecho, and it was incredible to see neighbors helping neighbors. I wish every town had the same kind of spirit.”

- Liz Colony, General Manager of Fong’s Pizza in Cedar Rapids

“At NewBo City Market, we love seeing small local businesses grow and thrive. Small business owners are talented, hardworking, and some of the most resilient members of our community. We are proud to serve them and work alongside them to further the economic development of our city.” -Alexandra Olsen, Director of Marketing and Development at NewBo City Market

“There was a time early in the pandemic when we thought we couldn’t ask for help because it just seemed that so many others also needed it. But our community reminded us in ways big and small that they still wanted to help us.”

- Chris McCarville, president of Xavier High School

“Cedar Rapids has had a pretty good run, and I hope that continues. I don’t want huge, fast-growth; I want smooth, steady growth that we can manage and use to reduce our unemployment numbers and create a lot of good-paying jobs to create a prosperous future for all.”

- Charlie Rohde, President of King’s Material, Inc.

With a new year underway, there is still much uncertainty and many unknowns for what lies ahead in the upcoming months. What we do know is that, as a resilient community, there isn’t anything we can’t rise to the occasion to overcome, so long as we do it together. So together let’s continue to rally and Buy. Give. Grow.
