ICR Collegiate Career Fair

Recognizing the increasing workforce challenges facing many area businesses right now, the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance is teaming up with Iowa City Area Development Group and regional colleges and universities to offer an online career fair October 5th. The Virtual ICR (Iowa City-Cedar Rapids) Collegiate Career Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Handshake, an online platform that allows employers to meet with potential employees in group settings or one-on-one. This virtual career fair is free to Economic Alliance members and offers a unique opportunity to meet with students and experienced hires (alumni) from Coe College, Cornell College, Kirkwood Community College, Mount Mercy University and the University of Iowa in one setting.

“This is a modern way to talk to hundreds of potential employees from regional colleges and universities at once,” said Ellie Evans, Workforce Specialist at the Economic Alliance. “Handshake is a tool that helps employers find strong job candidates who are all gathered in one virtual place.”

The Handshake platform also allows company representatives to schedule meetings and group sessions ahead of the event to maximize their time during the career fair. For anyone not familiar with Handshake, this robust website,, is a free tool employers can use to reach students, alumni and experienced hires in our region.

The Virtual ICR Collegiate Career Fair is sponsored by the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, Iowa City Area Development Group and the regional colleges and universities to help address the workforce needs in the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids region.

Pre-registration is required for this event. For more information or to answer any questions about Handshake, contact Ellie Evans, workforce specialist, at
