2021 Farmers Market Season Creates Positive Economic Impact
Oct 18, 2021
The community was more than ready to break out of the pandemic hibernation and breathe a sense of normalcy. One of the first events to take to the streets, literally, was the revival of the in-person Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmers Markets, presented by Cedar Rapids Bank and Trust.
The eight market season kicked-off a month later than previous seasons with its 2021 debut on June 19. With COVID still top of mind, extra precautions were put into place to ensure the safest market experience for all. These included the encouragement of minimizing contact, vendors located on one side of the street to decrease congestion, and one-way traffic signs on the market route. All were very well received by the community.
Bringing back the in-person market was like breathing life back into the community and Downtown, which saw an average attendance of 8,000. The economic impact was felt positively by the average 105 vendors, who were thrilled to setup their stands again. The experience, interactions and energy was missed from the year before. We were thrilled to bring back a successful full market season that included a fall market and Market After Dark. Thank you to the community, the vendors and the city for helping bring back this annual treasure! See you next year.
