Laborshed Report Reflects Shift in Employment

A recently released Laborshed Report for the Cedar Rapids area offers interesting insight into what is happening with the area’s workforce compared to two years ago. Many of the report’s takeaways reflect what the Economic Alliance has observed in the economy at large:
The number of employed people is down by approximately 10,000 from 2019 to 2021.
Retirees are up by 20,000 people.
The percent of people who are interested in changing jobs has increased significantly:
Employed: 27.7% to 34.1%
Unemployed: 82.0% to 85.0%
Homemakers: 53.6% to 68.2%
The wage level to attract workers looking to change their employment situation has increased by $2-4/hr
