Craft’d is downtown Cedar Rapids’ newest coffee shop. Owner Amanda Zhorne and her team offer coffee, non-coffee drinks, baked goods, and breakfast and lunch options. The cafe’s baked goods, including s’mores bars, muffins, and scones, are habit-forming and taste great with a hot cup of joe.
Zhorne runs the cafe with help from her family, which includes her three sons, all of whom were adopted from foster care. “I love creating things that we can do together as a family, things that unite us and give us all an opportunity to grow,” she says. “For me, running Craft’d is another family activity, one that solidifies our bond.”
As a new business owner, Zhorne says she is grateful for the support she has received from the Cedar Rapids community. “Everyone who has played any part in starting the business, no matter how large or small, has been nothing but kind and encouraging,” she says. “I’ve also been able to partner with other small businesses, which means that we all get a lift up.”
Zhorne opened her cafe at the end of August and is focused on maintaining a steady flow of customer traffic to sustain her business. She’s grateful to the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance for helping to promote her cafe, and for providing her with the latest information about Covid-19 health precautions and safety measures. As a busy entrepreneur and mother, Zhorne appreciates CRMEA’s newsletters and economic reports to keep up with regional business trends.
Craft’d will host a donation drive to support Foundation 2 and Junior League of Cedar Rapids on Giving Tuesday. On November 30, the community is encouraged to donate items for young adults who have aged out of the foster care system. Donations can range from dishes and cleaning supplies to toiletries and bedding. All donors will receive a complimentary Craft’d drink thanks to a partnership with the Palmer Group.
Zhorne says she will also be expanding her retail offerings to meet holiday gift-giving demand. Items for purchase will include candies and chocolates, candles, soaps, apparel, and of course, coffee beans.
