Winifred's Catering & Event Planning

Winifred’s has been serving Cedar Rapids families since 1952, first as a small chain of family restaurants, and, in more recent years, as a catering business that provides menu and meal preparation, event location, and party supplies and rentals.

At the helm of this Cedar Rapids fine dining staple is Amy Godwin, catering director, who has worked in her family’s business for nearly four decades. The family’s original restaurant was located on 1st Avenue Southwest, and from there, Ron Godwin, the company’s founder and Amy Godwin’s brother, planted the seeds for success.

Winifred's Catering In the 1980s, Winifred’s started catering an annual meal for 5,000 employees at Collins Aerospace. Godwin says that’s when the family decided to expand into event catering. The company’s headquarters is now based in downtown Cedar Rapids, but the family still owns the iconic Winifred’s restaurant building on 1st Avenue Southwest.

Through the years, Amy Godwin says it’s her customers that have kept her going, as well as the many opportunities she has had to contribute to the growth of her hometown’s economy. “I have seen business acquisitions and been actively involved in bringing new business to the area,” she says. “I feel like our community has really grown over the years, despite the 2008 flood and the more recent derecho storm.”

Winifred’s is one of Cedar Rapids’ most trusted catering companies. Event planners work with clients to create memorable events and tend to the tiniest of detail. In addition to delicious food, Winifred’s assists clients with entertainment, event location, and equipment rental. “We’ve become a one-stop-shop for event planning,” says Godwin. “We’re dedicated to making our clients' lives easier and to creating unique events for businesses and families alike.”

Although the Covid-19 pandemic was a challenge, Winifred’s Catering didn’t balk. The team is used to working through difficult times; it lost four buildings in the 2008 flood. During the pandemic, Winifred’s adopted stringent food safety measures and kept doing what it does best: serving fine food at affordable prices. Support from the Economic Alliance and others in the business community has been instrumental during the past 18 months.
