At Petersen Pet Hospital in Hiawatha, the staff understands that special bond between pet and person. As pet owners themselves, they feel it too! Since 2003, this locally-owned, American Animal Hospital Association-accredited small animal hospital has worked to provide the best possible veterinary care for their patients.
Dr. Bradley Petersen is one of five veterinarians on staff and grew up around animals. He appreciates their quirky personalities and understands their needs. That’s why Petersen Pet Hospital gives kittens, puppies and senior pets health screenings appropriate for their ages. With the support of 21 employees, the hospital conducts wellness exams, dental cleanings, vaccine boosters, parasite testing and other veterinary services when pets are healthy and diagnostic exams, treatments and surgeries when they’re not.
The hospital’s new location more than triples exam space from three rooms to seven, with a new ICU, isolation rooms to prevent spread of contagious disease, and a specially-designed comfort euthanasia room that gives pet owners more space to say goodbye.
“Success for us is defined and measured by always doing what is best for the animal,” said Dr. Petersen. “We’ve added several features like our luxury dog and cat boarding that offers views of a pond and wooded areas, as well as trained staff in a new stress-reducing initiative that includes infusing calming pheromones into patient rooms, keeping voices low, and offering treats throughout the visit, if medically appropriate.”
General wellness exams, elective, advanced, and specialized surgeries, laser surgery, dental care, radiology, endoscopy, laparoscopy and more are offered.
