BUILDING OUR WORKFORCE
Today & Next Gen. Skilled Workers: Continuation of the implementation of the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) to connect workforce strategy with economic development strategy and support for Iowa’s academic proficiency goals as set forth in the state’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) action plan to encourage career readiness and align standards with workforce needs.
Immigration Reform: Allow employers further access to skilled workers through immigration reform promoting job creation and economic growth, permitting us to compete globally and offering a sensible legal framework with enforceable workforce guidelines.
IMPROVING OUR BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT
Health Care Reform: A sustainable and affordable health care system that reinforces the strengths of the employer-sponsored health care system instead of imposing new mandates, taxes and penalties, and limits flexibility.
Tax Modernization: Permanent tax reform that provides certainty for all types and sizes of businesses to expand, create jobs and remain competitive.
Regulatory Relief: Directives that are evaluated and weighed against economic impacts and job losses.
Local Resources: Agriculture policy that promote Iowa’s agricultural industry at home and abroad. A comprehensive energy plan that includes promoting the expansion of renewable and alternative energies such as bio-based fuels, wind and solar and nuclear energy.
ENHANCING OUR COMMUNITY
Transportation Access: Long-term funding solutions for transportation infrastructure to support much needed highway and transit projects. Long-term reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to modernize and reform aviation policies, including a re-examination of the 1,500-hour minimum flight time rule. Flight safety and the regional need for reliable and sustainable air service should be included in FAA reauthorization
Trade Economy: Passage of trade deals that make it easier for American entrepreneurs, farmers, and small business owners to sell Made-In-America products abroad by eliminating taxes & trade barriers on American products.
Flood Protection: Appropriations ensuring construction of the Cedar Rapids Flood Protection plan, as directed by Congress in the Water Resources Development Acts of 2014 and 2016.
