Policy on the Rocks
This casual event gives lawmakers and members the opportunity to network and discuss important issues in a relaxed environment. Held at a member restaurant or bar, this event has been a very successful addition to our Public Policy events calendar since 2014.

ICR Day at the Capitol
The Economic Alliance joins forces with the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce for our annual Iowa City Cedar Rapids Day.
We invite our members to join us for an opportunity to advocate for Iowa City Cedar Rapids public policy priorities. In addition to delivering kolaches (a much anticipated tradition), our members will have the opportunity to attend and observe meetings with legislators on this day.
2019 ICR Day at the Capitol Recap
Kolaches and Pancheros burritos fresh from ICR were a hit with lawmakers once again at ICR Day at the Capitol. Each year, we team up with the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce and visit with lawmakers at the Iowa State Capitol to advocate for our public policy priorities. Over 25 members from both organizations ascended on the Capitol to deliver a pro-growth message to House and Senate leadership.
Our unified message to lawmakers at this year's event focused on strengthening and growing our workforce through funding for Future Ready Iowa, extending the Secure Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) penny sales tax and funding for the Regents’ universities and community colleges. We also advocated for our municipal partners by urging lawmakers to honor past commitments to “backfill” to cities and counties for losses due to commercial property tax cutbacks and to protect local control over tax increment financing (TIF) as one of the only remaining economic development tools for cities to use in retain, expanding and attracting business.
