The Economic Alliance is focused on public policy advocacy that supports the organization's other four core functions: Business Support, Community Development, Economic Development and Regional Development.
The Economic Alliance collaborates with the business community and other stakeholders and partners, including local municipalities and entities, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Iowa Chamber Alliance to develop a local, state and federal policy agenda. This provides a unified voice to advocate for pro-business and pro-growth issues key to our members and the region.
Iowa Primary Election Day on June 5
Electing pro-growth, pro-business candidates is vital to the Economic Alliance’s public policy advocacy efforts. This year Iowans will go to the polls to choose local, state and federal elected officials and our next chance to influence the outcome is on June 5, Primary Election Day.
To vote in the Primary, you must be registered and choose a party affiliation. Registered Democrats vote for candidates in the Democrat Primary, registered Republicans vote in theirs, etc. Click here to visit the Iowa Secretary of State’s website and view a full list of candidates and obtain information on how to register to vote.
Better Your Community by Serving on a City or State Board of CommissionThere's power in the voices of our businesses and members! Amplify your voice by serving on a City, State or County board or commission. This is the perfect opportunity for passionate community members to see direct results from their volunteer time. In 2017, we saw 14 members appointed to a City or State board. Now it's your turn. State appointments have been made, but there's still time to get involved at the local level!
There are opportunities for local city residents too, and Economic Alliance members span multiple municipalities. If you're a resident of Cedar Rapids, find city opportunities here and apply by May 15. Other city opportunities can be found directly on the corresponding city's websites, all with deadlines approaching soon.
Linn County is seeking members to a few boards and commissions as well. Click here for opportunities.

ICR IOWA Day at the Capitol
The Economic Alliance joins forces with the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce for our annual Iowa City Cedar Rapids Day.
We invite our members to join us for an opportunity to advocate for Iowa City Cedar Rapids public policy priorities. In addition to delivering kolaches (a much anticipated tradition), our members will have the opportunity to attend and observe meetings with legislators on this day.
Check out our Events Calendar to see all upcoming public policy events.
Watch for other public policy events and news via our Public Policy Update, sent weekly during Iowa legislative session.
