Public Policy

The Economic Alliance advocates for economic growth policies on the local, state and federal levels that support our efforts to address workforce challenges, support businesses of all sizes and types and promote robust and welcoming communities.

The Economic Alliance collaborates with our members and other stakeholders and partners, including local and regional municipalities and entities to develop our policy agendas. We align and partner with other statewide and national like-minded groups to provide a unified voice to advocate for economic growth policies key to our members and the region.

The Economic Alliance is a non-partisan organization that does not endorse or donate to political candidates. We support First Amendment rights for all people and encourage elected officials, candidates and citizens to be civil in discussions and debates on policy issues and political opinions. We are committed to leading by example.

Advocacy Events

Regional Legislative Launch

The Regional Legislative Launch is a special event by the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance and Iowa City Area Business Partnership as we unveil our joint state and federal public policy agendas. The two organizations will advocate as one region with state and federal policy makers and attendees will have the opportunity to speak directly with policy makers that represent cities and counties in ICR IOWA before new sessions begin in January.

Advocacy 101: Insider Legislative Briefing         Advocacy 101 Presented by Cedar Rapids Area Association of REALTORS

Join us prior to Policy on the Rocks for an “insider” briefing on the most up to date actions before the Iowa legislature and how you can best engage with legislators attending Policy on the Rocks. Hear from experts how to best advocate for the issues that matter most to you and your business and gain knowledge on new policies that may affect you. This will also be an opportunity to refresh your knowledge on how a bill becomes law, the political process in general and your best opportunities to have your voice heard.

Policy on the Rocks

Policy on the Rocks Presented by ProfolThis casual event gives lawmakers and members the opportunity to network and discuss important issues in a relaxed environment. Held at a member restaurant or bar, this event has been a very successful addition to our Public Policy events calendar since 2014.

ICR Day at the Capitol

The Economic Alliance joins forces with the Iowa City Area Business Partnership for our annual Iowa City Cedar Rapids Day.

We invite our members to join us for an opportunity to advocate for Iowa City Cedar Rapids public policy priorities. In addition to delivering kolaches (a much anticipated tradition), our members will have the opportunity to attend and observe meetings with legislators on this day.

Check out our Events Calendar to see all upcoming public policy events.

Watch for other public policy events and news via our Public Policy Update, sent weekly during Iowa legislative session.
