Community Spotlight: University of Iowa Health Care Expands With New North Liberty Campus
April 23, 2025 | Community Development, Economic Development & Workforce

Eastern Iowans are fortunate to have access to nationally recognized health care providers close to home. University of Iowa Health Care — the only comprehensive academic medical system in the state — continues to raise the bar for excellence in patient care, research, and education.
That commitment is taking a major step forward with the opening of a new medical campus in North Liberty. A ribbon cutting ceremony held on April 11 welcomed dignitaries, faculty, staff, and community members ahead of the facility’s official opening on April 28.
The North Liberty campus will expand access to high-quality care while increasing research and educational opportunities. Patients will benefit from a broad range of services, including:
- Orthopedic surgery and care
- Sports medicine
- A walk-in orthopedic injury clinic
- An emergency department
- A retail pharmacy with 24-hour drive-thru service
- Advanced diagnostic imaging
- Clinical lab services
- and more

“Our new North Liberty facility will provide increased access to care and convenience in the Corridor, in addition to patient care services currently available in Cedar Rapids,” says Joe Schmidt, employer relations manager at University of Iowa Health Care. “These include Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, and other specialty services. An Urgent Care clinic in Cedar Rapids is also accessible to patients and families seeking walk-in treatment for minor illnesses and injuries.”
University of Iowa Health Care’s commitment to excellence is recognized nationally. The health system serves as Iowa’s only comprehensive, tertiary-level center and is frequently ranked among the best hospitals in the U.S. The clinical team includes approximately 12,000 professionals — among them more than 1,200 staff physicians and dentists, nearly 800 resident and fellow physicians, and over 5,300 nurses.
With a mission rooted in innovation, collaboration, and world-class care, University of Iowa Health Care continues to advance research and train future health care leaders, while delivering safe, compassionate service to patients from Iowa and beyond.
As a proud member of the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, the organization sees value in being a strong community partner.
“Our membership allows us to support business development and community engagement in Cedar Rapids and throughout the Corridor,” adds, Schmidt “It also supports the health of individuals who live and work in our great communities.”
