The cities of Cedar Rapids, Marion, and Hiawatha, along with the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance are proud to announce the launch of MakeMyMove Greater Cedar Rapids, a dynamic new talent attraction program aimed at bringing remote workers to the region.
Through a partnership with the national MakeMyMove platform, the program offers more than $5,600 in relocation incentives for qualified individuals looking to call Greater Cedar Rapids home. Incentives include but may not be limited to:
- $5,000 relocation incentive
- Free Economic Alliance membership
- Local parks and recreation vouchers
- Ongoing connections to community and regional perks
“This initiative is more than a move. It’s an invitation to join a connected, forward-thinking community,” said Jodi Schafer, Talent Attraction Director at the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance. “We’re offering a soft landing and a warm welcome to those looking for their next chapter in a place where they can thrive personally and professionally. This is just the first step in talent attraction efforts with job mover campaigns for in demand positions, community branding initiatives, and a dedicated talent attraction website to come in phase two.”
While the message is being broadcasted on a national scale, there are specific eligibility requirements for those hoping to take advantage of the offer:
- Be 18 or older and currently living outside Iowa
- Be employed full-time or self-employed with remote capability
- Have a minimum income of $55,000/year
- Commit to relocating their primary residence to Cedar Rapids, Marion, or Hiawatha within six months
The process is simple: interested candidates apply online, receive support from a local Mover Guide, and if selected, get connected to resources and incentives that make their transition seamless and exciting.
Greater Cedar Rapids is a hub of opportunity, offering the affordability, career access, and quality of life remote workers crave. Home to major employers like Collins Aerospace, General Mills, and CRST, the metro also offers miles of trails, rich arts and culture, and a thriving downtown core. The region is ideal for individuals and families seeking stability, connection, and growth.
“We’re not just attracting talent, we’re building community,” said Jodi. “MakeMyMove Greater Cedar Rapids aligns with our mission to support workforce growth, energize our cities, and create lasting connections for new residents.”

The success of this program and the broader Collaborative Growth Initiative would not be possible without the support and funding from the mayors and city leadership of Cedar Rapids, Marion, and Hiawatha. Their collective investment of $436,000 in marketing dollars reflects a shared commitment to talent attraction and economic vitality across the region.
