Matthew 25

Since 2006, Matthew 25 has been investing in core neighborhoods of Cedar Rapids. Our goal is to use the driving forces of the built environment, local foods, and community engagement to move these neighborhoods towards a healthier future with increased opportunities for residents. To achieve this, we have developed a variety of innovative programs such as:

Creating Iowa's first urban farm, where we grow fruits and vegetables using sustainable practices and offer community garden plots.

Establishing the state's first and only pay-it-forward cafe, Groundswell Cafe, where everyone has access to fresh, healthy food, regardless of their ability to pay.

Opening a nonprofit grovery store, the Cultivate Hope Corner Store, in a food desert neighborhood where healthy food was not easily accessible.

Rehabbing homes and providing affordable housing opportunities. 

Creating a tool library with tools and supplies people can use to maintain and improve their homes

Providing summer camps at our urban farm and supporting various school gardens so that kids can learn about where their food comes from and the importance of healthy eating

Offering a youth development program for high school students where they game valuable skills in communication, teamwork, and problem solving.

Creating a community building pillar to connect neighbors and community member in order to increas social cohesion, happiness and public safety in the neighborhood.
